Juvignac, pleasant life style in a green heaven...
A deally situated just outside the regional capital Montpellier; Juvignac combines way of life in a developing town. Many cultural events and festivals are organized throughout the year.

Heritage

The name of Juvignac was derived from a former governor of the roman province, Juvinus.

It is said Hannibal passed through the domain of Fontcaude with 100.000 men 50 that the elephants could have a triple of the local spring water before moving on in their attempt to conquer Rome.

The Roman bridge

Built on the outskirts of the town the ancient bridge which is classified as a historic monument since 1927, has conserved its charm; despite the flood which occurred in 1993 amputating a part of the structure, it is still of great interest to local people and visitors.

Long ago pilgrims on true way to Compostelle, merchants and travellers would use the bridge to cross the river Mosson. Many pleasant green and shady paths along the riverbanks are to be discovered for pleasant strolls.

The spa at Fontcaude

The town of Juvignac owns the famous spring source de la Valadière at Fontcaude (warm water). The waters are beneficial and were used by the romans.
In 1780 Charles Bonaparte, the grandfather of Napoléon stayed at Fontcaude. Other famous names from the past have also taken the water from the spa.
Princess Holstein Glucksbourg or the famous author Prosper Mérimée.
They were transported by the horse drawn coach from Montpellier.
A spa was built on the site at Fontcaude and exploited from 1845 – 1985.
In 1983 the mayor of Juvignac, Danièle Antoine Santonja acquired the domaine of Fontcaude for the town. 180 hectares of woodland which enhances its reputation as a town in the countryside.
It provides a wonderful place to stroll, for artists and also local events to be set up such as the June jazz festival.
Juvignac has an ideal climate with 300 sunny days a year.
Half way between the Mediterranean beaches with a picturesque hinterland near Montpellier , the capital of the Languedoc Roussillon.
It is not far from famous natural sites. The gorges de l’Hérault, the Camargue, The Pont de Millau, numerous picturesque villages and vineyards.
